Here are the in service dates and retirement dates so far for the #2600 series cars. I will be updating this in the coming weeks with new info I still need to research, but for the most part it's done (I just need to research a few retirement dates, mismatch in service dates etc.)

The next 20 cars (#3161-80) had luggage racks installed down the length of the car, similar to an overhead storage compartment on an airplane. Those were removed during the alstom rehab in the early 2000's.

Impressive. You even taught me there are more mismatched pairs involving 2600 series cars than I thought were actually in place.

Probably one reason they were not so noticeable is that there wasn't a gap at the end of the 2600 series to which CTA could have assigned mismates, as opposed to not having any cars originally numbered higher than 6720. Apparently, gaps after 2180 were also used (BusHunter's list).

Yeah, I'm not liking what I'm hearing about the 2600s being somewhat spared for God knows how long. Why though?

There isn't infinite money. You got $1 billion to replace the 400 that are supposed to be replaced with 7000s?

2801-02, 3087-88 are recent adds to the stored list. Were these involved in the O'Hare wreck with 3061-62?

Thanks, I just was going to ask about these. I noticed yesterday that #3062 is parked all by itself at the west end of rosemont yard with it's tail end (the end with no motor cab) facing O'Hare. If it's on hold and unusable in it's current state, I wonder why it's still at Rosemont yard.

3061 isn't coming back from being shredded to get it out of the station, and again, I bet 3062 is subject to NTSB jurisdiction.

This roster puts the blue line at over 400 cars. Is that right? I need to do a recount. I haven't seen the #3100's on the blue line mentioned above, but I'll look for them now that they're mentioned.

#2871-72, #2651-52, and #2611-12 as a 6-car set on the Purple Line right now.

Yeah i keep seeing #2929-30 and #2947-48 on the purple line. The cars are really jangled up now. I saw #2887-88 on the purple the other day. Saw #2917-18 in a consist on the red line and i could have swore i saw those on the blue line. I guess not. BTW, #3157-60, #3163-64 were all in one consist on the blue line, so that pans out too according to the roster.

How many 2600's does Midway have now?

I just changed the roster to say 54 #2600's. I didn't see the #3180's that were mentioned before unless they were by the shop so for now I'm keeping them on the Red line. Maybe they were just visiting. The yard had 8 cars from the Blue line all in seperate consists. #2767-68 was in the yard marked to say it was disabled/parked. #2761-62 was also in the yard along with #2831-32. #2661-62 was in service.

I don't think that will be happening for a little bit. Last I heard, we're still waiting for the 3200 series rehabs and the 7000s to get here first.

Also, the 7000s specs indicate that 400 will still be around when the 7000s arrive. So, at most 200, and probably (except for the couple of dozen that have already been wrecked), probably not for another 8 months, I would guess.
