More Bus Moves

I rode #1091 on route #54 Cicero, a Chicago garage route, on Monday, 23 July. It still had its '7' sticker in the windshield. Since #1090 is at Forest Glen garage {and has been ad-wrapped}, I ponder if more buses in the upper 1090s have been sent to Chicago garage. :o

The attachment is the queue waiting for a westbound route #77 Belmont bus at Kimball at 24:40 hours one weeknight. 6799 is the bus waiting to be boarded.

Some prospective riders queued behind me were unable to board this bus. Our operator was telling them it would probably be a twenty-minute wait for the next vehicle. :(

If the Authority is not going to increase the frequency on late-evening runs of #77 Belmont, it needs 60-foot buses on it. The 40-footers are packed from Clark St. to Western Ave., and again at Kimball. A 60-footer from Kedzie (a #151 Sheraton terminating at Belmont - Halsted) could probably handle it with one westbound run to Harlem (or Cumberland), and an eastbound short-turn run to Kimball, after which it can deadhead south on it.

On another note, during this last Sunday of #130 service for this year, the route is being run with artics (this being a Kedzie route). The last day of #130 service for this year will be tomorrow, Labor Day.

Route #124, which normally ran with artics during summer weekends, is run today with 40-footers.

On Bustracker Chicago Bus #1981 on the #3 King Drive.

Those were all ex-Chicago Garage buses. With the September pick, Chicago lost #1972-#1976 evens and #1978-#1981 to 77th. Thus, the 1000s are now listed by garage (rosters updated to 9/4/2012):

103rd: 1000-1037, 1248-1253, 1480-1481, 1483-1527, 1598-1600, 1602, 1604, 1605-1613 (odds), 1799-1855

Chicago: 1038-1087, 1091, 1323-1344, 1585-1591, 1856-1924 (evens), 1926-1931, 1982-2029

74th: 1092-1165, 1528-1584, 1721-1757

77th: 1273-1302, 1932-1963, 1965-1967, 1969, 1971-1981

Forest Glen: 1088-1090, 1189-1199, 1202, 1203-1209 (odds), 1214, 1215, 1218-1222, 1224, 1226-1247, 1254-1272

Kedzie: 1166-1188, 1200, 1201, 1204, 1206, 1208, 1210-1213, 1216, 1217, 1223, 1225, 1345-1374, 1592-1597, 1601, 1603, 1606-1612 (evens), 1614-1720

North Park: 1303-1322, 1375-1429, 1758-1798, 1857-1925 (odds), 1964, 1968, 1970

Please feel free to correct me.

By the way, the moves of some North Side 1000s to the South Side could have been the first step towards the bus equipment moves for the South Side Red Line reconstruction project. By the time that project goes into full swing, Kedzie Garage may very well end up being assigned some Novas.

Nope.

Equipment moves are just balancing the fleet for the pick that just went into effect, along with whatever other maintenance needs there are at the moment.

The Red Line project doesn't start until next spring. There's no need to move buses half a year early.

Whatever moves are needed for the Red Line work could easily be done over the course of a weekend, right before it starts.

One thing I do notice out of these moves is esentially North Park gave back what it got from 103rd for the summer pick, just with different buses in that at the start of summer North Park got 1794-98 and for the fall sent 1850-55 to 103rd along with returning 1798 if RL's list is accurate.

I need to update the Kedzie and 74th list of 1000s:

Since I posted my last post in this thread, #1160-#1165 also went from K to 74th.

Thus, 74th has the #1092-#1165 block. Kedzie's 1100s start at #1166 as of the September pick.

Also, I spotted 74th's Nova #6476 on the #8A South Halsted route. AFAIK the #8A runs entirely with 77th's buses on weekends.

Since we're on the topic of odd sightings, I spotted #4057 (or maybe my eyes are bad) on the #71 71st/south shore. First time since 2010 that I've seen an artic on 103rd's non express routes.

Actually, 103rd does operate some runs on the #71 on weekdays. Other weekday runs and all weekend runs on the #71 are from 77th.

I know that. I was saying that it was odd seeing 103rd putting artics on local routes since the first months of the 2010 cuts when they had about 65. Plus the fact that the number looked like it was 4057 (Kedzie's)

I'm not sure if there was, but Kedzie does not have any runs on the #146. That route solely belongs to North Park. Sure Kedzie takes care of the #128, but that route was not running that day.

They do when bears games happen. I've seen them, usually going from State/Lake to Soldier Field

That would be correct since I have seen them myself during Soldier Field events. So ChicagoNova, Sam's question of if there was a Soldier Field event happening during the weekend is a valid one.

I know it is. I don't need anyone telling me. All I'm saying is that I wasn't sure if there was an event at Soldier Field. There might have been, but I'm not making any assumptions.

Fine. And we can have this conversation without getting testy since the response you give now was not really what you were saying at first.

Is it possible that Kedzie and 103rd might be trading artics for BRT service? Cause there's still the sighting of 4057 on route 71 (which is odd itself)

Fill-in run most likely. 4057 is back on the #156 LaSalle as of this afternoon.

On the other hand, I saw two of Chicago Garage's Novas - 6565 and 6572 - on the #49 Western. And Nova 6476 is still at 77th Garage, working one of that garage's routes, right now.
